The age of the applicant (male or female) shall be 60 years or above. The applicant must belong to a household below the poverty line according to the criteria prescribed by the Government of India.
Amount of Pension
For beneficiaries in the age group of 60-79 years, the pension amount disbursed will be Rs. 200 per month per beneficiary.
For beneficiaries who are 80 years and above, the pension amount disbursed will be Rs. 500 per month per beneficiary.
Mode of Payment
The pension would be credited into a post office or public sector bank account of the beneficiary.
Certificate of Coverage
The States/UTs are required to furnish a certificate that all eligible persons have been covered under IGNOAPS.
How to Apply
The social security schemes are generally implemented by the Social Welfare Departments in the States. However, in some States, Rural Development Department or Women Child Development Department are administering these schemes. The concerned department in the State may be approached for getting pension.
Implementing Authority for National Old Age Pension Scheme
NSAP had been transferred to State Plan from 2002-03. Identification of beneficiaries, sanction of pension and disbursement is done by the concerned State Government. Funds are provided to States as Additional Central Assistance (ACA) by the Ministry of Finance on the recommendation of the Ministry of Rural Development. NSAP schemes are generally implemented by the Social Welfare Departments in the States. However, in some States, Rural Development Department or Women Child Development Department are administering these schemes.
