Seventeen months later, the consumer district forum ordered the travel firms to pay Rs 37,000 for deficiency in service.

The couple said while the brochure mentioned that the package was inclusive of a travel insurance of Rs 738 per person, the company asked them to cough up the same amount in the name of medi-claim. The Patils went on to allege that throughout the tour they were short-changed on some pretext or the other.

After taking the feedback of other travellers who had gone on the same trip, a bench of Judges S M Ratnakar and S S Patil said the firms were guilty of deficiency in service. The forum ordered Kuoni and SOTC to pay Rs 37, 529 to the Patils within a month.
